Color Hunt at Home: Find Today’s Color Indoors

To play a color hunt at home, open today’s target, find a similar shade on an indoor object, and capture it with the camera or a selected photo. Color Hunt Game: Color Finder supports both ways of playing. Start with one room and the things already around you; there is no need to buy supplies or head outside.

Start with today’s shade and one room

On Home, look at the Color of the day card, then tap Find it. Choose a small search area before you start: the desk, the kitchen counter, or one side of the living room. Compare the target with what you can see rather than opening every drawer. A muted green might suggest a tea towel, while a warm brown could send you toward a wooden shelf. On your first hunt, if the app is naming whatever the camera sees, tap Skip to today’s color to move straight to the daily target.

Look for a patch, not a whole matching object

You do not need a sofa, wall, or shirt that matches from edge to edge. Look for a usable patch: a stripe on a cushion, a block of color on packaging, or part of a book cover. Use the table as a starting point for your search, not a checklist to complete. Pick the row closest to today’s shade and check a few nearby objects. Leave items where they are whenever possible, especially in a shared home. One promising detail is enough to bring into the camera view.

Keep the indoor light simple

Choose one well-lit spot for comparing your candidates. At night, use a steady room light; during the day, try a spot near a window. Light can affect how a color appears in a photograph, as Nikon explains in its guide to setting white balance. For this hunt, try keeping the object under one main light source instead of moving it repeatedly between daylight and different lamps. If the reading looks surprising, compare another part of the object before abandoning it.

Move the sampling circle onto the color

Bring the candidate into view and drag the sampling circle onto the patch you want to try. The app samples a small area around that point, so aim inside the patch rather than along an edge between two colors. On a patterned cushion, for example, choose the middle of one stripe. Watch the match percentage and the capture button. You can save a partial match once the button becomes available; the app also gives a Locked on message for a closer match. Treat the percentage as game feedback rather than a precise measurement of the object’s physical color.

Keep the hunt within reach

For a seated version, choose a desk, bedside table, or tray as your search area. Set a few objects you already own within comfortable reach, such as a notebook, fabric pouch, coaster, and pencil case. Compare those with the target and bring the closest candidate into view. If someone is helping, ask them to bring an object to you rather than making room-to-room movement part of the challenge. Keep the phone steady on a suitable support if that is more comfortable. These are ways to arrange your own hunt; the app does not provide a separate seated mode.

Choose a photo when live camera use is inconvenient

Tap the picture icon in the hunt’s top bar to select a photo, then drag the sampling circle over a candidate color. For an at-home hunt, you might use a photo of your bookshelf, laundry, or a tabletop. Check that the intended patch is visible after the image fills the screen. There is a current issue when replacing a photo within the same hunt: the previous image can remain visible while the reading comes from the new one. To try a different photo, close the hunt with X, reopen Find it, and select the next image in that fresh hunt.

If nothing at home seems close

Change the kind of object you search before expanding the search area. If you have only checked large furnishings, try small printed details, folded fabric, or an item of clothing. For a pale target, look at pale sections of objects rather than assuming a white surface will match. For a dark target, look for a visibly colored dark patch. There is no guarantee that your home contains today’s shade. If no candidate enables a capture, leave the daily hunt unfinished or come back later. You do not need to buy something, recolor a photo, or keep searching just to fill the day.

Save one find and check the result

Once you are happy with an available match, tap the capture button. A saved daily catch opens a result card, and Home shows Caught today. Check the photo and color before deciding whether to keep or share the result. You can finish there; an indoor session does not need several finds to count as your daily hunt. If you want another attempt at the same target, Home offers Hunt again. For a shared household activity, let each person point out a candidate and choose which one to capture on the phone you are using.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Pro to complete the daily hunt indoors?

No. The daily target and its capture flow are free. The three-per-day allowance belongs to Free hunt, a separate mode for collecting colors without a target; it does not limit your daily-target attempts.

Does an indoor catch count toward my daily streak?

Yes. Saving a catch in the daily hunt marks that day complete, including when you use a selected photo. Catching the target again on the same day does not add another day to the streak.

Can I use an older photo of my home?

Yes. You can select an existing photo; it does not have to have been taken that day. The saved catch belongs to the day you capture the color in the app. For a fresh observation challenge, set yourself the extra rule of using a photo taken today.

Can I change today’s target to a color I own?

The daily target is assigned by date rather than chosen by you. If you would rather collect a color already in front of you, use Free hunt. That saves a free-mode catch and does not complete the daily target.

Is there a timer for finding the daily color?

The daily hunt has no countdown deadline within the day. Its target follows your device’s local date. If you leave the hunt open past midnight, the app switches to the new day’s target when you next try to capture.

What if I see Camera not available?

Use Upload a photo on that screen to continue with an image. The camera-unavailable screen can cover the X close button. If you want to leave without selecting a photo and cannot reach X, close and reopen the app.
